Measuring Implants Stability—A Review

[Year:2017] [Month:September-December] [Volume:5] [Number:3] [Pages:7] [Pages No:105 - 111]

Keywords: implant stability, implant stability quotient, periotest, resonance frequency analysis

DOI: 10.1055/s-0038-1672092  |  Open Access |  How to cite  |

Abstract

Achieving and maintaining implant stability are prerequisites for a dental implant to be successful. Implant stability can be defined as the absence of clinical mobility, which is also the suggested definition of osseointegration. Primary implant stability at placement is a mechanical phenomenon that is related to the local bone quality and quantity, the type of implant, and placement technique used. Secondary implant stability is the increase in instability attributable to bone formation and remodeling at the implant–tissue interface and in the surrounding bone. There are many ways in which the implant stability can be evaluated such as clinical measurement of cutting resistance during implant placement, reverse torque test, and the periotest. This article aims to throw light on the various methods to determine implant stability.

Management of Mandibular Fracture in Pediatric Patient Using Vacuum-Formed Splint: A Case Report

[Year:2017] [Month:September-December] [Volume:5] [Number:3] [Pages:4] [Pages No:112 - 115]

Keywords: mandibular fracture, vacuum-formed splint, closed reduction

DOI: 10.1055/s-0038-1672093  |  Open Access |  How to cite  |

Abstract

Mandibular fractures are less prevalent in children as compared with adults. This is due to the anatomic differences present in children. Treatment of mandibular fractures ranges from conservative noninvasive treatment to open reduction and fixation of fracture site. A case of 12-year-old boy with left parasymphyseal fracture managed by closed reduction using a vacuum-formed splint is reported here.

Management of Gingival Recession Using Laterally Repositioned Flap—A Case Report

[Year:2017] [Month:September-December] [Volume:5] [Number:3] [Pages:3] [Pages No:124 - 126]

Keywords: gingival recession, laterally repositioned flap

DOI: 10.1055/s-0038-1672095  |  Open Access |  How to cite  |

Abstract

Gingival recession is defined as apical migration of gingival margin in relation to cement enamel junction. The laterally repositioned flap is used to cover denuded root surface that has adequate donor tissue laterally as well as adequate vestibular depth. This article highlights the use of laterally repositioned flap for the management of localized Miller's Class II gingival recession. An excellent esthetic outcome was achieved and patient was satisfied with case resolution.

Modified Complete Denture Prosthesis to Support Lip and Improve Speech in Completely Edentulous Patients with Neurological Problem—A Case Report

[Year:2017] [Month:September-December] [Volume:5] [Number:3] [Pages:3] [Pages No:127 - 129]

Keywords: lip plumber, lip support, nerve damage, paralysis

DOI: 10.1055/s-0038-1672096  |  Open Access |  How to cite  |

Abstract

Lip has an important role in esthetics and phonetics of an individual. Damage to marginal mandibular nerve leads to loss of motor function and muscle tone of the affected side of lip. Eventually, it leads to loss of both primary functions of lip. Various surgical approaches of treatment do exist, but the treatment time is long and results are often not satisfactory. Prosthetically, these patients can be managed with the help of lip plumber prosthesis. This case report presents simple and accurate method to restore the harmonious relation of the lip.
